Inari Polar Dawn Wild Camping Ski Tour (available from December to February)

€1,450.00

A demanding one-week guided backcountry skiing tour on the lake Inari for people prepared for skiing and cold camping. Full-board, camping in tents and open shelters. In the end of the tour there is a hotel -overnight with sauna and dinner. Organized typically in late January to early February, on request also on milder spring season.

An exclusive skiing program in the largest lake in Finnish Lapland takes place in the end of the polar night, when we can expect to have only couple of hours of daylight during the day. Exceed yourself by sleeping in a tent, quinzee, and in an open shelter watching the northern lights, and learn a new sports of backcountry skiing and winter fishing. Towards the end of the trip, we will change the extreme cold to extreme heat in a sauna, when we spend the final day in a cosy wilderness hotel where there is a possibility to various additional activities, such as reindeer gazing, snowshoeing and husky sledding (not included in the price).

  • Level of solitude 4/5 (very high because of the polar night)
  • Difficulty 3-4/5 (Severe cold can be expected especially when skiing in the open lake on mid-winter)
  • Average skiing distance per day: 15 km (+ two full rest days)
  • Suitable for: persons over 18 years old, who have some previous experience in wild camping, nordic skiing, and have a good physical condition
  • Group size 2-6 persons
  • Guiding languages: Finnish and English

On arrival and departure there will be a hotel overnight in a cosy wilderness hotel, where there is also a chance of storing stuff not needed in the wilderness. The actual skiing will start close the Koppelo village, from where we start moving towards north exploring the archipelago of the majestic arctic wilderness lake. We end the tour in the village of Nellim, with a nice accommodation. On the way, we will learn the essentials of extreme cold weather skiing below tree-line, enjoy remarkable silence and feel of remoteness and possibly northern lights, and challenge ourselves while sleeping in a quinzee and open shelter. On rest days we also try winter fishing taking benefit of skiing on top of a lake. Rumors say that in addition to the final sauna, there might even be a possibility of having a sauna on the way...
